North Ronaldsay 4-ply Yarn

Out of stock

An opportunity to try this variegated hand dyed yarn with a difference, from the special, rare breed seaweed eating sheep.

A genuinely local product, fleece is grown, then spun in limited quantities at the mill, on the island of North Ronaldsay.

This is a 4-ply yarn but tends towards a heavy fingering or sport weight. Please note – for guidance only, the meterage/yardage for the natural undyed yarn is 375m or 410y per 100g. We are unable to provide figures for the wool, after dyeing, so please allow for some shrinkage.

  • 100% wool
  • Non repeatable, one of a kind colourway
  • Suitable for felting

Lovely yarn to knit with. The colours are rich and vibrant. Soft and drapey feel. Despite the loose twist I didn’t split into the yarn while knitting. It washed and blocked beautifully. 3.75 needles it knits up to a soft fabric with a lovely drape, good for shawls, lace etc. I also tried it with 2.75mm needles which would at my tension, be better for sweaters or cardigans. Very good service, it arrived within a couple of days and I was emailed when it was posted.
