FAQ – Ask Pam
Q: Do you use Natural Dyes?
A: No, not for the yarns and fibres currently for sale. I enjoy experimenting and using natural dyes from time to time for interest as a hobby.
Q: What Kind of dyes do you use?
A: The dyes I use are permanent, non-toxic synthetic dyes, and along with other chemicals required in the process, are used responsibly to have minimum impact on the environment.
Q: Why is there no meterage/yardage given on your labels?
A: Sorry, there is no figure given as my yarn winding equipment is not sophisticated enough to give a consistent and accurate measurement.
For guidance only, I try to give the meterage/yardage amounts of the base yarn before dyeing. An allowance of around 20% is suggested to take into account shrinkage after dyeing.
Q: Where can I find your products in orkney?
- Orkney Tweed, Kirkwall
- The Quernstone, Knitwear Shop, Stromness
- Castaway Crafts, Dounby
